Workplace Wellness

Here are 5 things you can do at your desk to improve your health and wellness while working (from home or the office).

Sitting behind a desk all day can be so detrimental to your body and mind. Whether you work in an office or work from home, we have some tips that can help alleviate the stress you take on mentally and physically in the workplace. Here are our favorite ways we like to disconnect to reconnect while at work.

Let’s start with the mind.

1. Breathwork

If you’ve been keeping up with our blogs, you already know we are huge fans of breathwork. Amongst all the amazing benefits it creates: alleviating anxiety, increasing energy, improving focus, you will feel a difference instantly. Not to mention it is extremely easy to do behind your desk, and requires no additional things.

A personal favorite is the Breathwrk app. It's super convenient to have mindful breathing exercises right on your phone, wherever you are.

2. 20-20-20 Method

This method is meant to give those eyes a break when staring at a screen all day. This can help reduce dry eyes, eye strain, and blurred vision.

Here's how it works:

Take 20 second break

Every 20 minutes

Look 20 feet away

3. Blue-light lenses

Between working at your desk all day to coming home and scrolling through Instagram in bed, we are logging hours and hours of screen time. Blue light lenses have gained popularity over the last couple of years, now finding their way into almost all designer eyewear brands. Studies suggests that exposure to blue light is detrimental to our vision, memory, sleep cycle, and much more. Plus, they are super chic and give those who don’t wear glasses a new reason to rock them!

For the cheeky: Warby Parker - Corretta

For the not-so-shy: Look Optic - Kaine Readers

For the body:

1. Seated Elliptical

Sometimes we sit so long, our body needs to get up for a walk to get our blood circulating. Keep your body active and in motion with a compact elliptical that fits perfectly below your desk. This is the perfect addition to your workspace, especially if you find that you can’t get to the gym everyday.

Here's one we love: Cubii portable elliptical for under your desk

2. Ice Roller

Arguably one the best ways to feel refreshed is with an ice roller. Keep an ice roller in your freezer and take it out when you’re reaching that point in the day where you’re fatigued, trust me on this one. It promotes circulation, reduces puffiness, and even helps with lymphatic drainage through the combination of face massage and ice therapy.
